What is a Dust Collection Throat Plate?

It's a solid throat plate without an opening. Once you cut into it, you will be left with an opening that is only as wide as the blade, known as zero-clearance. This narrow opening provides material support right up to your cut line, helping prevent tear-out and keeping small offcuts from falling beneath the throat plate where they can cause dangerous ejection and kickback. Built into the underside of the throat plate is a shroud that traps all the debris that would normally be shoved down under the throat plate and forces it to exit out the rear, where it can be sucked away by your vacuum.

The Gen 2 Zero Clearance Dust Collection Throat Plate for the DeWALT DWS716 installs in less than a minute. Simply remove the six T-20 screws that hold the factory throat plate in, take out the factory plate, slide the Dust Collection Throat Plate in, and secure it reusing the factory screws.

Dust Collection Throat Plates are not intended to be used while making bevel cuts! These were designed for cabinet and furniture makers that rarely, if ever, use the bevel feature of their miter saws. Bevel cuts will destroy the shroud and the zero-clearance functionality. The full range of miter cuts can be made as long as the blade is plumb, or 90 degrees to the table.

While Dust Collection Throat Plates work well by themselves, they benefit greatly from being coupled with an upgraded aftermarket behind-the-blade collector, like the Upgraded Dust Collection Boot for the DeWALT DW716 & DWS716. Aftermarket upgrades like this give you a better chance of actually sucking up all the dust and debris at the source.

Only intended to be used on the DeWALT DWS716 and DWS716XPS miter saw. Not tested or guaranteed to fit any other make/model. Parts and accessories for other makes/models can be found on our website.
